My name’s Kim Thomas, and I’m a freelance journalist. My interest in birth trauma was first piqued many years ago when a friend had a particularly distressing birth experience that left long-lasting emotional scars. In 2013, I wrote a book about birth trauma, and the experiences of the women I spoke to for that book have remained with me.
Women who experience birth trauma often feel isolated and find it hard to get help. Although post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is now much better known than it was several years ago, most people associate it with the experience of war, and not many are aware that it can affect women who have given birth. I started this blog to bring together news and information about PTSD and birth in the hope that it may help women who are feeling isolated and don’t know where to turn.
